History of the Home

Windspray Cottage

Windspray Cottage, which is currently located at 17 Albert Street, Port Albert was originally No. 16 Westbrook Street in Yallourn, Victoria. The town of Yallourn was situated around 100km away and was a company town in Victoria built between the 1920s and the 1950s to house employees of the State Electrical Commission of Victoria, who operated the nearby Yallourn Power Station complex. However, expansion of the adjacent open cut brown coal mine led to the closure and removal of the town in the 1980s.

When the town was closing, houses within the Yallourn township became available for purchase and relocation. This is how 16 Westbrook Street started it's new life in Port Albert !
